The second fabulous FarmHer that I documented this spring was Lois Reichert of Reichert's Dairy Air in rural Knoxville, IA. Lois owns and operates a "micro dairy," milking about 15 goats and from their milk, creating her award winning cheeses. What a treat it was to meet Lois and her volunteer on this stormy Sunday morning in June. As I sat and watched the goats being milked, the care and concern she had for these girls was evident. I was not only impressed but down right enamored. With each goat that paraded proudly into the (pristine) milking room I completely understood why Lois is such a successful business woman. All of that care and concern directly shows in her award-winning cheeses. If you haven't had the opportunity to try them, you can find her on Saturday mornings at the Downtown Farmers Market or you can buy her cheese at some of the great places that sell local products around town such as The Cheese Shop or Whole Foods. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!
